The Eagles continued their march towards dominance in the Central Sierra League(CSL) with a 51-6 road victory over Laton on Sept. 26. Laton, because of their small size, is going to 8-man football next year and was undermanned in the league game.
However, the game still provided the Eagles with a chance to perfect their game for their Homecoming match-up against league leading Coast Union on Oct. 3.
“The Laton game allowed us to work on small things that need to be ironed out,” head coach Jon Hall said. “In each game we play, we take small steps to becoming more and more efficient in executing our offenses.”
The Eagles led 29-6 at half, thanks to senior quarterback Seth Fisher’s two rushing touchdowns.
“We just got on a roll on offense and our game really came together,” Fisher said. “We are feeling pretty confident going into the Coast game but we still won’t take them lightly.”
According to Hall, while Coast Union is 5-0 in CSL play, the Eagles have an excellent chance to win if they can stop Coast’s dynamic running back, Matt Downing, ’04.
“Our plan is to stop Matt Downing, who is the leading rusher in the Valley,” Hall said. “They will probably be the best team we face, but if we win then we have the inside track to winning league.”
The Oct. 3 game begins at 7:30 P.M. at Clark Stadium in downtown Clovis. Students will arrive to prep their Homecoming class floats by 4:30 P.M. Food and beverages will be served starting during the junior varsity game at 5:30 P.M.
