With fall semester drawing to a close, many juniors and seniors are looking to apply for college scholarships and turn to the Internet, books or magazines. John Endicott, vice principal, suggests starting the search for scholarships as soon as possible.
“Seniors need to start right away, but even juniors could start checking out scholarships,” Endicott said. “A good place to find scholarships is FastWeb.com. It’s quick and easy and the only downside is the fact that thousands of other people are going after the same scholarships, so the competition is tough.”
FastWeb.com holds over 600,000 scholarships worth over $1B available to high school students. There is also a program on the site helping students find their dream college by filling out a questionnaire concerning their college interests and expectations.
Students agree the search for scholarships should start as soon as possible.
“I applied for the presidential scholarship at Fresno Pacific University early on,” Jenny Ficklin, ’04, said. “Mr. Endicott has been very helpful and I feel like now I’m a step ahead.”
Some students, however, have not yet begun the scholarship search.
“College is too far away for me think about,” Michael Abajian, ’04, said. “I figure I’m just going to end up at Fresno State, so why would I stress myself out this early in the year?”
