Guitar society club debuts

The sound of music can be heard wafting through the hallways. The Guitar Society has begun to meet formally during lunch on Fridays in the science room. The purpose of these meetings is to aid campus guitarists wanting to improve their skills.

“It’s about time someone decided to organize a time and place where everyone who plays guitar can meet,” Chris White, ’05, said. ” Everyday after school at least five to seven people cram into the back of my truck and play guitar while our fingers freeze.”

Many students are excited to have the opportunity to share and learn tips and tricks for playing smoother guitar progressions.

“I have not attended a meeting yet, but I plan on participating within the near future,” Hillary Kell, ’05, said. “I heard that there are a lot of great benefits when you are in the group, like getting to socialize with other guitarists.”

Kell’s response seems to echo that of other Guitar Society’s members who enjoy the benefits the club provides.

“Mr. (Rod) Atchley’s 25 years of experience is really evident in these meetings,” Tyler Charest, ’05, said. “He uses his talent to help improve many of the players strengths. He’s a great musical instructor.”

Atchley, campus science teacher, has become the Guitar Society’s instructor. Atchley’s previous campus musical experience includes playing pep charts with the campus jazz band.

“I have learned many great guitar techniques that I’m going to use more often,” Nick Ramon, ’05, said. “Mr. Atchley seems to know many different styles, techniques, tone, and placement.”

This club offers more than just a few lessons and learning some new chords.

“I feel that I have gotten a connection within this club,” Nick Carrera, ’05, said. “The club offers an unique blend of musical, educational and spiritual education.”
