While every member contributes differently to their team, senior cheer captain Lindsay Bolduc, right, exemplifies many of the qualities needed to lead a successful squad. For her contribution and dedication to the squad, Bolduc was awarded Cheerleader of the Year by coaches Katie Mendenhall, center, and Russ Spencer.
With a younger sibling on the cheer team, Bolduc also serves as an inspiration to sister Lizzy, ’11.
“I am so proud of my sister for getting Cheerleader of the Year,” Lizzy said. “I admire her so much and she has inspired me to work through all difficult situations and never give up.”
Competing with a perfect season this year and spending extra practice time together, including the annual Clovis Pep Classic, many of the girls say the squad became a tight-knit group. Many of the seniors on the team have cheered together through their entire high school career.
“Lindsay and I have cheered together for four years and have created a very close bond,” senior Nikki Erickson, not pictured, said. “I’ll miss cheering with her. She has always been an inspiration and is a very talented cheerleader.”
Captain admired for leadership
Despite the strains of her job as captain, many girls found Lindsay’s strength and ability a necessity to the success of the team.
“Lindsay is what we needed on the squad this year,” fellow senior captain Natalie McCallum, not pictured, said. “She has a selfless leadership that the girls admire, and is a stern leader that is needed when you have 25 different personalities and conversations going on during practice.”
Lindsay was acknowledged for her skills this season, by being rewarded with the most prestigious award of the year. This honor is given to one senior cheerleader who possesses a strong, encouraging spirit throughout the year. Determined by the three coaches, the 2009 Cheerleader of the Year was a unanimous vote for Lindsay.
“I am extremely excited that I received the honor of being cheerleader of the year! There were a lot of seniors who I thought deserved it because of all their determination and commitment,” Bolduc said. “My coach Katie is so much more than a coach to me, she is also a mentor and a friend, and I love her so much! After the struggles we had my junior year it was amazing to hear her say that I had inspired her.”
