Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles holds the annual summer cheer camp for squads throughout California and Arizona. The teams choose exclusive ways to display their spirit, a challenge that often falls down to senior Shorty Powell.
“I’m more of the wild person on my team,” Powell said, “so I’m usually the one who gets chosen to perform the stunt or challenges.”
Unlike the usual routines, Shorty had to climb a daunting fence. The fearlessness in her eyes was evident as she scaled the barrier with ease.
“I’ve never been afraid of heights and I rarely get nervous when I do stunts,” Powell said.
This event and numerous others has built up her strength to become a significant leader on the cheer squad.
