During the first Sister2Sister meeting, peer counseling girls meet and visit with their “little sisters,” Nov. 10. This is one of the first years the peer counseling class has hosted a meet-and-greet pizza party for the junior high girls. The class also planned an ice-breaker game to make the younger girls feel more comfortable.
Since many big sisters and little sisters take part in the program for the first time, nerves of anticipation are often felt by the participants.
“I had a fun time getting to know my little sister and being able to bond,” Hannah Palmer, ’11, said. “I was a little nervous to meet her at first, and hoped she would like me right off the bat. Fortunately, everything worked out, and we had a lot of fun.”
Big sisters plan on taking their little sisters out to lunch every other week to the Promised Land and mentor their sisters with issues resulting from pre-teen angst. As is tradition, the peer counseling class will make weekly cards inviting them to lunch.
