Aspiring journalist and artist, editor-in-chief of The Feather Online, and senior at Fresno Christian, Chloe Mueller, has received the 30th Annual Horizon Award from the Fresno Arts Council (FAC).

The award is presented to five “types”, artists, educators, businesses, specials, and youths. Mueller will receive the award as the only youth. According to the FAC’s official website, the winners are nominated and then carefully selected by the council to receive the Horizon award.

The FAC website describes their award and reason for choosing its nominees.

“The Annual Horizon Awards are given to recognize individuals, organization and businesses that have made significant contributions toward the enrichment of life in the Fresno community through excellence in the arts. Since 1984 the Arts Council selects winners from an extensive list of nominees, those artist and patrons of the arts who by their works and deeds have gone above and beyond the norm in their commitment to the arts.”

For her work and passion as a writer and the online publications she produces, Mueller has been recommended, and earned the distinction as an influential member in the arts community. “I am very honored to have been nominated, let alone win the award,” Mueller said. “It’s very encouraging to even be considered a small part of such a talented community.”

Principal Amy Deffenbacher remarks on Mueller’s achievement from the Fresno Arts Council and her qualities as a student. “My experiences with her as a students is that Chloe was very sweet, smart, but rather quiet,” Deffenbacher said. “I was always the quiet student in high school, but the quiet kids are very capable of doing great thing. I think it’s amazing that one of our students, and also our school, was recognized by the community.”

Join Mueller and the community this Thursday, Aug. 27 at 5:30 p.m. at the Fresno Arts Museum. Over 100 guests will attend the event in order to honor the artists in our shared community. Tickets are on sale at the official Fresno Arts Council website.
