Annual event educates parents

Transferring to a new school is one of the biggest fears for many teenagers. One way campus administration helps prevent this uncertainty is an annual night prepared just for parents and students with questions about classes and extracurricular activities.

This year approximately 40 families attended FC Live on March 1.

“We opened the campus up for parents and students who might be interested in coming here,” Jon Endicott, vice principal, said. “During that night we presented our academics and programs we have here and answered any questions people had.”

FC Live allowed parents from kindergarden to high school to introduce themselves to teachers and ask questions about classes and courses on campus.

“FC Live is a chance for parents to meet teachers and coaches and put a face on the school,” Scott Falk, campus pastor, said. “It’s a time where everyone important in the school gets under one roof to answer questions asked by students and parents.”

Parents from as far away as Chowchilla came to be informed about academic courses, extra curricular activities and sports programs.

“A wide variety of students and parents came,” Endicott said. “It was exciting to see parents being introduced to the community of FC.”

In an informal atmosphere, parents had the opportunity to meet teachers and staff one on one to discuss curriculum, academic standards and school activities.

“I liked FC Live a lot when I went to FC Live last year; the event helped me understand what the school was about,” Linda Graham, mother of AnnaLynne, ’07, said. “Other programs besides academics were also presented. FC Live was one of the deciding factors for AnnaLynne coming to FC.”

Parents were not the only ones that benefited from attending this evening. Some prospective students transferring from public and private schools gleaned helpful information for the first day of school

“I went to FC Live two years ago when I was first coming to FC as a freshmen,” Christy Belden, ’06, said. “I liked how all the teachers took time to go up to everyone that was there and meet them. It was easier to come to this school when I knew what to expect.”

For more information, students and parents can contact secretary Yoko Kilbourne in the high school office at 299-1695, ext. 5.
