In order to introduce the second semester sewing assignments, teacher Sharon Scharf dons her classroom example for home economics – a pair of flannel pajama bottoms – to her first period class.
The students will learn to lay out and cut out a pattern, sew straight seams, do a simple seam finish, make a casing and machine hem, make machine buttonholes and insert elastic with this project.
“We have fun with this project each year,” Scharf said. “The students will each have a unique pair of PJ bottoms for pajama day next year!”
After a semester of cooking everything from fire-roasted chiles to a 9-foot burrito, Scharf spent the period preparing her students for their sewing unit.
