The Parent Support Network (PSN) sponsors many events throughout the school year that go beyond the classroom. The members of PSN volunteer time, money and strive to serve campus students and faculty.
“The purpose of PSN is to encourage the spiritual and academic growth of students,” Stacey Belmont, PSN president, said. “We have a prayer ministry where members focus on each individual student and faculty member.”
PSN members pray for ten or more students and a teacher throughout the year. A volunteer parent makes a commitment to pray for their needs during the entire school year.
“We have a volunteer parent pray for a select number of students and faculty members,” Belmont said. “This is a unique ministry.”
PSN recognizes the dedication students devote to their scholastic studies. PSN is responsible for the awards given to students who pursue high academic achievement.
“We try to reward students for their long term commitment to academic excellence,” Susan Ficklin, PSN treasurer, said. “PSN sponsors student of the month awards, candy, gift certificates, class fundraisers, teacher appreciation gifts and other end of the year awards.”
One of the awards offered to graduating seniors is the PSN Scholarship. The scholarships are given to a senior boy and girl in order to help ease the cost of college tuition.
“One of the many academic aids that PSN supports on campus is the two scholarships at the end of the year,” Ficklin, said. “Last year we raised $400 for each scholarship, and we’re trying to meet last year’s success.”
The members of PSN hold fundraisers throughout the year, in order to raise money for the scholarships.
“I am very grateful for the PSN scholarship,” Sarah Damm, ’03, said. “It gave me a wider range of colleges to choose from, and it made tuition less of a problem. I am so thankful for what PSN has done for me.”
The PSN member involvement varies and the average meeting consists of anywhere of a dozen to 18 parents.
“PSN is open to everyone; we usually have over a dozen parents volunteer,” Belmont, said. “I wish we could have more involvement.”
For more information students and parents can call Belmont, at 225-4682 or contact Yoko Kilbourne, secretary, at the high school office at 299-1695, ext. 5. The next meeting is on March 15 at 2:00 P.M. in the Jackie Johnson Room.
