At the 34th annual Clovis Pep Classic competition, the varsity cheer squad placed first out of four teams, Jan. 30. In order to receive a high score, teams are expected to show a lot of energy and enthusiasm, according to cheerleaders. However, the judges often look beyond the high kicks and stellar choreography to observe exaggerated facial expressions.
