As a way to show their consideration for the local Pregnancy Care Center, student volunteers in home economics help construct baby quilts to donate. The Pregnancy Care Center’s purpose is to assist expectant mothers in their pregnancy who opt to not get an abortion.
Home ec. teacher Sharon Scharf has used this project as a final exam in past years and enjoys teaching students how to sew.
“It’s fun giving students the courage and self-confidence that they can do anything they put their minds to,” Scharf said. “If you convince someone to do something, they can do anything.”
All participating students came on a volunteer basis, and some students also chose to help deliver the quilts to the center. Scharf says that in previous visits, students have been very impacted by the information they are given at the center concerning the pregnancy process.
