Whether it be serving on a mission trip, working to earn some extra cash, vacationing or just doing nothing, students on campus are excited about this year’s spring break. The impatient hearts will soon be calmed when the first day of break begins.
“I’m going to Huntington Beach to get a great tan this year,” Josh Wright, ’05, said. “Plus the sand and the surf are like music to my ears.”
Spring break will be Apr. 5 ?12 covering six school days. Many students are grateful for the vacation free from school.
“The best thing about Spring break is no school,” Justin Shanen, ’04, said. “When there’s no homework I can just relax and enjoy the time away from the stress.”
Besides the escape from school stress, family traditions are also looked forward to with great anticipation.
“My family goes to my grandmother’s house and the little kids have an egg hunt,” Derek George, ’06, said. “Our tradition each year is to do target shooting with our rifles for fun. It’s a family hobby that my grandfather and my father hope I will do some day.”
Easter traditions are a staple in some families’ lives, continuing for over ten years.
“My family always goes to Pismo,” Jennifer Beckman, ’07, said. “We’ve been going there since I was about five. It’s our family tradition. We shop, surf and eat great food together.”
Family and friends go hand in hand with Easter traditions for some students.
“This year I’m going to Pismo Beach with my friends then I’ll probably be working at Braun’s [Ice cream] the rest of the time,” Marcie Frosie, ’04, said. “I love the beach and so far Easter break is the only time I’ve had to go there.”
Many students look forward to the church aspect of Easter and the competitiveness of the Easter egg hunt.
“On Easter Sunday we go to church,” Tara Albrechtson, ’06, said. “The Easter bunny brings us baskets filled with candy and toys. Then in the afternoon we dye eggs and decorate them, then hide them for the hunt. It usually gets pretty out of hand. The competition is fierce but then we eat the hard-boiled eggs when it’s done.
