In the past, art teacher Sharon Scharf assigns her students paintings, drawings and portraits. However, as the year comes to an end, Scharf decided it was time to try something new, April 19.
“A year ago my son-in-law planted gourds for our art class,” Scharf said. “I harvested them last fall and set them on my picnic table to dry. We are now reaping the awards of all this work, and the students began washing the gourds on Monday.
“Gourd pyrography isn’t usually something that is done in an art class, but I decided it would be interesting. Usually, gourds are used for containers or decorations. I even have a wren house made out of one.”
