On April 14, six publications staff members arrive in Portland, Oregon, for a journalism convention organized to instruct writing, yearbook and photography classes, and to hand out the NSPA Pacemaker awards. This four day, three night stay in Portland included walking around downtown, experiencing new restaurants, and learning more about how to improve writing and photography skills.
While walking around downtown on the first day in Oregon, reviews editor, junior Ashley Ward, left, spots two police men trotting down the sidewalk on horses. Although the officers ensured the horses were friendly, Ward became frightened when it started bobbing its head up and down. However, after observing the horse for a few moments, Ward soon felt comfortable enough to pet him.
