During the staff’s trip to Portland, OR, for a journalism convention, staff members visit the largest bookstore in the world, Powell’s City of Books, April 14. This bookstore contains one million books, 70 percent of which are used. Powell’s is separated into nine color-coded sections, each filled with hundreds of different genres.
Two hundred people make up the staff of this 68,000-square-foot store, and each worker is assigned to their own section, such as the “gold” or “purple” room.
