As they visit the Reedley Fiesta Parade, the FC marching band uses the opportunity to prepare for future competitive parades, Oct. 9.
Since the parade was not a competition, the band was not judged. Instead, the group took their chance to rehearse. Senior percussionist Sydney Carlson viewed the parade as a dry run, beneficial for younger band members.
“We were using Reedley as more of a practice run for Selma, Veterans and any other parades we’ll possibly be doing,” Carlson said. “Since it’s not judged, the junior high students in their first year of marching wouldn’t feel as pressured. The parade is shorter, so it wouldn’t be exposing them to what the harder, judged parades will be like, especially Veterans.”

The band will next perform in the 46th Annual Selma Rotary Marching Band Festival on Oct. 30. This year’s theme is ‘Music, The Spirit of America.’ The parade normally starts at 9 a.m. Please return to The Feather Online for more information.
