After a year of unprecedented wins and numerous triumphs, the campus band can enjoy their summer with the knowledge that they have made school history having captured first place in two competitions never before won by a campus band.
“I have seen immense improvement in this year’s band,” Paul McEntee, band director, said. “They have completely surpassed the expectations I had for them at the beginning of the year.”
The band’s most recent win took place during the Biola band competition on April 23. They placed first in the small school division, earning a command performance during the concert later that night. Their win at the competition is a school first.
“We performed very well at Biola,” McEntee said. “The group played with great energy and performed to the best of their ability.”
While on the trip, the band took time out from performing to enjoy Disneyland, Medieval Times and a few hours’ shopping at Huntington Beach.
“”The band trip was so much fun!”” Elise Aydelotte, ’05, said. “”I’m glad that we won at Biola, but the best part by far was dinner at Medieval Times. My friends and I went crazy cheering for our knight; we yelled so much that we were all hoarse the next day!””
Now that the year is almost over, the band has begun to turn its eyes to plans for the upcoming year.
“”Next year Mr. Mac is having us do a field show,”” Melissa Jimenez, ’05, said. “”It’s going to be really tough since none of us have done one before, but it should be interesting, although a lot of work.””
A field show takes place on a football field; each band plays three songs as they march in patterns on the field. The band will be competing during parade season and performing their show during halftimes of home football games.
“We are going to have an amazing band next year,” McEntee said. “Since we are only losing four seniors we are going to be able to pick up right where we left off; we are only going to get better.”
The band will finish their year with their annual Spring Concert, beginning at 7:00 P.M. on April 29 at Riverpark Bible Church. For more information, contact McEntee at 297-9464, ext. 131.
