Dear Editor,
I’d like to take this opportunity to invite and encourage everyone in supporting Fresno Christian cheer at their first competition in 6 years; Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 at Clovis High in the afternoon session. Fresno Christian is scheduled to compete around 4:00, but spectators should come early to find a seat in the gymnasium.
Cheerleaders at FC do the work of two teams. Most schools have a game cheer squad and a competition squad. Game cheer consists of supporting our football and basketball teams.
Cheer is a year round sport, because we have to learn cheers that are specific to each sport. In addition, we learn dance routines, stunts and pyramids. We start in the summer with a week long camp to learn skills and continue practicing each day during class as well as extra early morning practices.
Likewise, schools will have a competition squad, devoted to practicing and performing their routine for judges. Fresno Christian cheerleaders do both. In the past, our school has competed at the highest level in cheer, even winning national titles. After a six year break, we are gearing up to compete again. That first competition will be nerve wracking and we would appreciate the support of our student body. Our coaches have prepared us well and we have a great routine. We will represent Fresno Christian and all of you to the best of our ability.
Sincerely, Brooklynn Ainley
