There’s some really memorable settings out there when it comes to movies. From the Ghostbusters base in New York City to the set of Back to the Future, there’s some sweet spots in the world you can travel to that have been the setting of many films out there. Here’s some of the top film locations in real life I would really love to visit. What’re your list of must-visits? Maybe you have something I forgot!
Universal Studios
The backlot of this place is amazing! I’ve been to the Universal Studios in LA a couple times and can’t wait to go back. And I’m super blessed to have the opportunity to visit the park in Florida (thank you, Julianna!) The energy at Universal is absolutely fantastic. The backlot tour is a great journey through iconic film sets still being used, and you can actually catch things being filmed during the tour. The guides always have a unique spin to put on the tour, and there’s the King Kong and Fast and Furious 3D experiences. You can see where Back to the Future, Captain America, Spider-Man, Monk, and countless others were filmed. And that’s just the backlot tour! There’s the new Harry Potter world, Jurassic Park and Mummy rides, special effects and animal actor shows, and a live Waterworld show performance. Not to mention all the characters wandering around you can take pictures with, or the Velociraptor and her trainer stalking through the park. All the workers their seem truly happy to have their job. As far as theme parks go? Universal Studios is a film-lover’s dream. I can’t wait till my next visit!

National Monuments
Okay. So there’s a lot of reasons to see our National Monuments. I want to go for the history, because they’re impressive and memories of what our country has done in the past, but I also want to go for National Treasure, a favorite movie of mine. It’d be kinda fun to take some pictures doing the same poses as some of the characters.
What? Don’t judge.
Hobbiton
New Zealand is already beautiful to begin with, but the country also has a little slice of Middle Earth. The Hobbiton set from Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit remains there, and you can take a tour and walk right through the little town. A day in Middle Earth? Yes please.
A Film Location Quest
You might have seen pictures circle around the internet of a person holding up a photo of a film scene. The picture lines up perfectly with the place where they’re standing, seamlessly blending together. They’ve found an exact place from a frame of the movie, and it looks really cool. I think it’d be so much fun to go to a city where a favorite movie or show was largely filmed and print out a bunch of memorable scenes, then track down where exactly that place is in the city. To actually be there and see it, no matter how mundane the location seems, would be so much fun. And aligning the picture exactly would bring the movie a bit more to life.
How about you? What’s your list of movie travel destinations?
See you around the campus, and Soli Deo Gloria!
