64 new students join the student body for the ’22-23 year
In Fresno Christian’s 45th annual school year, the student body continues to expand. At the start of the new school year many new faces walk around campus. Total enrollment ended last year at 673 and began this year at 737.
One new student is senior Lewis Monroe, who moved over from Clovis North. He transferred in hopes of growing his faith in God and meeting new friends. Monroe enjoyed his first week at Fresno Christian.
“I just wanted to be in a Christian environment the year before I head off to college,” Monroe said. “The first week of school was pretty good, I felt really welcomed and I especially liked chapel.”
In his free time, Monroe enjoys spending time with friends and involving himself in church activities. He plans to play basketball this year after playing three years at Clovis North.
Also coming from Clovis North is Ella Slayden, ‘24. She heard about the school from friends and fellow sophomores Jake Wyatt and Kendall Bell. Slayden shares her reason for enrolling and how the first week of school was compared to public school.
“The community just seems really welcoming and I have heard all great things so it seemed exciting,” Slayden said. “The first week of school was a lot of fun, it was a lot different than public school, but in a good way.”
Slayden enjoys reading novels and hanging out with friends outside of school.
Moving from across the US is junior Angel Deleon. He moved to Fresno from Tampa, Florida this summer when his parents were offered a job as the youth event directors for California and Nevada. Deleon plans to play both basketball and football this year. Deleon shares how the first week of school went for him.
“The first week of school was pretty awkward because it was a completely new school and I didn’t know a lot of people,” Deleon said. “It got better as the week went on though because I was making new friends and better connections.”
Junior Asa Dixon from Clovis West has also lived out of state, living in both Washington and Indiana for the majority of his life. He likes to skate and play basketball outside of school.
Dixon shares why he came to Fresno Christian and what surprised him.
“The primary draw to Fresno Christian was that my mom got a job teaching English. We also wanted to be a part of a community of fellow Christians,” Dixon said. “It was an awakening only having seven kids in some of my classes and having kind, friendly teachers”
Mariah Regaldo, ‘23, is coming from online schooling, which has continued from when Covid-19 was prevalent. Regaldo shares
where she was going to school before Fresno Christian and what she liked about the first week of school.
“I came from Clovis High online. I spent my first two years in person and then my junior year in the online program,” Regaldo said. “It was a good first week of school. Everyone was welcoming and nice, which I really appreciated.”
Be sure to welcome any new students you see around campus and make sure they feel included and encouraged. This is the chance to get to know new people and make new friends!
