With unofficial practices since the fall, the FC girls softball team seeks a successful year by implementing a preseason into their line-up, which began in mid February. The Eagles opened their season at home with a scrimmage against Hoover High, Feb. 16.
FC took this match as a way to analyze team dynamics and overall strategies that have been implemented by the new coaching staff.
The Eagles are eager for a preseason win since most of the girls have been attending optional workouts, which began late October. During these practices, the coaching staff taught the girls the fundamentals of softball, set plays, batting and the training of a new catcher, senior Raine Hayes.
Aside from training a new catcher, the Eagles acquired a new pitcher, sophomore Jenna Weimer, who had to become comfortable with Hayes and the rest of the team. Both Weimer and Hayes utilized practice as a way to gain trust and be comfortable with one another.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, they faced Hoover with only 9 players, but since all winter sports are over the team’s roster is complete with a total of 12 members.
The were scheduled to face the Minarets Mustangs, Feb. 24, but was cancelled the morning of the game.
The Eagles will next travel to take on Sierra Pacific, Feb 29.
