Christian Living and leadership teacher, Aubri Foster, challenges students to answer the question ‘Who am I?’ in a 12 page writing assignment, Aug. 27.
Students are assigned separate sections to complete throughout the semester. At the end of the semester the paper will be 12 or more pages. A few examples of the topics students talk about are personal testimonies and likes/dislikes.
Foster shares why she enjoys assigning the writing task to students.
“My favorite part about this project is reading how students see themselves and being able to encourage them individually,” Foster said. “We are going to answer the questions: Who Am I? Who is God? Who is Jesus? What (or whom) is the church? And finally, What do I believe? All of these things put together in one paper is like writing a mission statement for life.”
Students are challenged with this assignment as they must reflect on their life, sharing what they value most.
“It is important to be able to answer these questions before we study all of the other world views,” Foster said. “To know what you believe, before you explore other beliefs, will prepare you for an encounter with the collegiate world when your views are challenged on the daily.”
Foster assigns this writing prompt every other year to her students.
