The 35th annual FC homecoming week is underway, Sept. 30-Oct. 4. The Feather would like to introduce this year’s senior court nominees with a series of ‘Get to Know You’ questions.
Seniors were paired up to highlight a popular board game, a part of the 2019’s theme. Today’s couple, Rebekah Micu and Braden Bell, represent the board game Monopoly.
This year’s theme, ‘Homecoming Game On’, will be held at 6 p.m., Oct. 4. Campus student leadership has chosen to support the Pregnancy Care Center, Fresno, as the local non-profit who will benefit from funds raised during homecoming night.
A little history about the board game, Monopoly; invented by Elizabeth Margie in 1903, she sought her first patent in Brentwood, Maryland while living there. Margie designed the game to represent the economic effects of land monopolism and the use of land value tax. The game was originally called, ‘The Landlord’s’ and was self published by Margie herself.
Charles Barrow was newly introduced to the game when he decided to sell it as ‘Monopoly’. Parker Brothers bought copyrights and then owned the game. As in later years, Hasbro acquired both Parker Brothers and Monopoly. Now, thousands of different Monopoly versions have been invented and sold all over the world.
