Several empty chairs fill Fresno Christian classrooms as students take the PSAT, Oct. 16. Freshmen, sophomores and all juniors participate each year as a preparation for the SAT. The PSAT is a practice test to help prepare students for the SAT needed for college acceptance.
So, how important is the SAT? Do we also need to take the ACT? If we bomb the test, can we re-take it? These are all questions that many students ask in high school. Luckily, FC has academic adviser, Evangelina Tello to help inform students about requirements for college.
Academic adviser Evangelina Tello believes preparation is key and shares why the school provides this practice?
quote: Why is it important to take the PSAT?
“This is a great opportunity to take advantage of a practice test that is similar to the SAT”, Tello said. “This will give students a heads up of what to expect when they take the test.”
Let’s answer some of these questions.
Do all colleges require the SAT?
“Nope!”
What is the ACT?
“It’s another form of an entrance exam that students may take to apply to colleges and fulfill the application requirements. The main difference this test and the SAT is that the ACT has science reasoning and the SAT does not.”
How often can we take the test?
“Students may take the test as many times as they want to during their junior and senior year of high school.”
What are considered great scores on both tests?
How long to the tests take?
“The tests usually take up around 3 hours.”
How do you prepare for the test?
“Practice books, practice tests and the websites that students use to register for the tests provide resources to prepare them.”
