As fall sports come to a close, girls and boys basketball prepare for the start of their season, Nov. 8.
The girls varsity basketball team is coached by Robert Foshee with the assistance of Mike Zamarripa. With 10 players coming out for the season, the two juniors, four sophomores and four freshman practice every day after school to prepare for preseason games.
The girls first game is away at Orange Cove High School, Nov. 19. The game will begin at 5:45 p.m.
The boys varsity basketball team consists of 12 players, six seniors, four juniors and two sophomores. Head coach Jon Penberthy has three assistant coaches helping him during the season: Aaron Penberthy, Jason Lafore, and 2017 alumnus Nick LeBlanc.
Returning player Logan Lewis, ’20, explains what goals he has set and how the team has prepared for the upcoming season.
“I think team chemistry is the most valuable asset this year,” Lewis said. “If we can convert from being talented individuals to one well-oiled machine, we will beat every team. We have prepared to advance our team skills by never taking a break from our last season. If we can continue that momentum, we will rock and roll.
The first basketball game will be at Roosevelt High School, Nov. 12, jv at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m. Make sure to head out and support your Eagles!
