For 97 years, family and friends of all ages have traveled down Christmas Tree Lane to see the sparkling lights through the month of December. The first walk night of the year was Dec. 3.
Christmas Tree Lane originated in 1920 with a single lit tree in the remembrance of a child who died. Around 140 homes and 300 trees participate in Christmas Tree Lane every year, attracting around 100,000 tourists annually.
This year, the Christmas Tree Lane walk-only nights are Dec. 3 and Dec. 11. Every other night, Dec. 4-25 , will be drive nights to view the lane. Christmas Tree Lane is located on Van Ness Blvd between Shields Ave and Shaw Ave in Fresno, California, the lane is open during weeknights, 6-10 p.m., and weekends, 6-11 p.m.
Famous due to their amount of lights, the Dean Alexander house was previously featured on ABC30’s contest, “The Great Christmas Light Fight“. The house took first place with a trophy and a $50,000 prize that was donated back into Christmas Tree Lane. Every year, the lane continues to interest visitors and involve the neighborhood in a month long event.
