Encore performance for middle, high school in SMC, Dec. 13, 10:15 a.m.
Spotlight Productions presents Dr. Seuss’s holiday classic “The Grinch” play to parents and students in the Student Ministry Center (SMC), Dec.3.
Dressed from head to toe in a hairy lime green suit, The Grinch, played by Colton Allen, ’20, concocted a devious plan to steal Christmas from the citizens of Whoville. Narrating from stage left, senior Shauna Howard reads the original book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Suess, while various actors added to the Whoville cast.
This is the first show that drama teacher Megan Conner produced and was excited to share with the FC student body.
“We actually chose ‘The Grinch’,” Conner said, “because one of the things we’re working on in drama class is learning how God gave us our gifts and that they’re from Him and we want to use them to serve Him and to serve others. So, I wanted to start off our production year doing a service project. The intentions of this production is to teach and help students understand that God gave us our gifts and we are to use them to serve others.”
Freshman Madilyn Foster watched “The Grinch” play on its opening day, Dec. 3, and enjoyed the message that the play conveyed to the audience.
“I learned a good lesson from the play,” Foster said. “I understood that the true meaning of Christmas is family and friends coming together to celebrate the time they have together. My favorite part of the play was when two middle school girls sang ‘Where Are You Christmas’ from the original movie.”
Elementary students giggled, laughed and even participated in the production as The Grinch, Colton Allen, proceeded into the crowd, grabbing an elementary student to play the role of his reindeer, Max.
If you missed the first showing of the play, there are three more opportunities to see this production. The showings will be at West Fresno Elementary School at 1:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m., Dec. 11. Additionally, an encore performance of The Grinch for the FC middle and high school students, Dec. 13, in the SMC at 10:15 a.m.
