Middle school girls varsity soccer defeats Wawona middle school in the Division III championships, Dec. 11. The team competed in the Fresno Unified Middle School district under the coaching of Richard Cortez and Erin Obwald.
After deafeating Tioga middle school in the semi-finals, the team traveled to Wawona for their championship game. After two 30 minute halves, the gamed ended in a 1-1 tie which brought both teams into overtime.
The girls played two 5-minute halves for overtime and the score remained the same. Both teams had to gear up their players for penalty kicks for that was their final shot at winning the game.
The coaches put Grace LaCroix, ’24, as goalie and chose five other players to shoot against Wawona’s goalie. The girls ended up defeating Wawona in penalty kick, 3-1, and became the Division III champions. Congratulations to our Fresno Christian middle school girls varsity soccer team!
