Have you ever wanted to learn a foreign language on your free time? The Duolingo app and website offers 36 foreign language courses for free!
Beginning in 2012, founders Luis von Ahn and Severin Hacker created Duolingo as a way for people to have access to a free foreign language education. Ahn and Hacker designed Duolingo to work with the learner. By teaching in different ways and at different paces, this allows the user to learn at the pace and the style they prefer.
Duolingo offers several types of studying strategies to help users learn at their own pace. You can either listen to someone speak the language you have chosen, type out sentences or you can say a sentence and the app will tell you if you pronounced it correctly.
Over the last eight years, Duolingo has grown to be one of the biggest educational platforms. It has over 300 million worldwide users and has become the world’s most downloaded educational app with no advertising.
