My journey with The Feather first began at the end of the 2017-18 school year. Seeing all the photojournalists involved with The Feather all throughout my first year in high school always interested me.
Feather advisers, Kori Friesen and Greg Stobbe, held a meeting for students who are interested in joining the team for the upcoming school year. Junior at the time, Kaylie Clem, encouraged me to attend the meeting since I was showing interest in joining the photojournalism team. The next year I decided to join the class.
This team is just like a sports team, there are many strong individuals but each of us offers something unique to the team.
I’ve not only gained photography skills, I have learned to write and attain the ability to act in a professional manner regardless of the circumstances.
The progression of my photographing ability started when first learning to manually shoot a DSLR camera. First learning the settings and understanding how to control light was overwhelming at first but soon began to come naturally after lots of practice. I can now confidently go into any light situation and leave the event with quality pictures.
As I reflect on the past two years that I have been involved in The Feather I am grateful for all the opportunities, growth and knowledge I have gained with being a part of this team.
