Happy St Patrick’s Day! In celebration of the late, Saint Patrick of Ireland, people around the world celebrate this holiday, March 17.
Saint Patrick was born and raised in Roman Britain in the 4th century, until he was later taken at the age of 16 as a slave to Ireland. After his arrival Patrick sparked a interest in Christianity. He began to preach and convert many Irish people to Christian church. By the time of his death, March 17, 461, Patrick had established monasteries, churches, and schools.
To Honor St. Patricks religious services, Luke Wadding, a Franciscan scholar, developed a special feast day in the Catholic Church. The day consists of special mention of all the Saints, prayers, and scripture reading.
Saint Patrick’s Day Fun Facts:
- The color of St. Patrick’s Day was originally blue.
- Legend says that each leaf of the clover has a meaning: Hope, Faith, Love and Luck.
- Saint Patrick was born “Maewyn Succat” but changed his name to “Patricius” when he became a priest.
- The Shamrock is the national symbol of Ireland.
- The Shamrock is a symboled used by St. Patrick to represent the Holy Trinity.
