Families across the globe continue to stay inside during the Coronavirus pandemic, April 2. COVID-19 continues to spread rapidly with almost 1 million cases throughout the world.
As the number of cases rise, more people stay inside. While gyms, fitness clubs, and exercise classes are closed across America, it can be difficult to stay motivated a get a workout in.
Some simple ways to continue an active lifestyle during this time is to go on a walk around the block. Walking is a great way to get fresh air, vitamin D, and to burn some calories. As well as feeling the sun on your back, walking also improves heart health and can regulate blood pressure.
Another simple way to keep active is to go on a bike ride. Biking is another great way to get your heart pumping. This type of exercise also improves joint mobility and muscle strength. An additional cardio exercise is running or jogging. Running can be done either on a treadmill, around the block, or even on a trail. This type of exercise helps lose weight, gain muscle, and is great for heart health.
High intensity interval training (HIIT) is a very popular way to stay active. HIIT workouts include high intensity workout intervals followed by short recovery intervals. This type of exercise is great for body fat loss, decrease blood pressure and cholesterol. HIIT workouts can last from 20 minutes to an hour of continuous work and rest.
All of these exercise components can be done at home or around your block. Getting exercise not only helps your body, but it also improves brain health. Exercise is proven to improve learning, mood, and memory.
