“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy,” concludes January’s theme beatitude, Feb 1. For the past few months, the chapels have been filled with speakers providing their explanations and experiences with the different beatitudes. High school student leadership and others help lead the middle school chapel in worship and small groups.
Instead of a speaker, like in previous chapels, the middle school students were divided into small groups with a high school leader. Freshman through senior students serve as leaders in these groups. Chloe Butler, ‘25, who participated as one of the leaders, describes what it was like.
“It was really fun because I really liked bonding with the girls,” said Butler. “They’re all super sweet and it was a lot easier than I expected.”
The questions discussed in the small groups include:
- In your words, what is mercy?
- What is mercy not?
- What does it look like to be merciful in your own life (home, school, sports)?
- How can I challenge myself this week?
Middle school students will meet once a month in small groups with high school student leaders.
