Home Economics class learns the basics of auto mechanic skills and their way around a car during the auto maintenance lab, May 18-19.
The annual lesson teaches students many important skills that will benefit them in the future.
The class learned how to:
- Change a tire
- Check fluids and oil
- Gauge tire pressure
- Hook up jumper cables
Home Economics teacher, Kimberly Bell, shares the reasoning of her creating this lesson and activity for the students.
“It’s important for students to be able to know how to properly maintain their vehicle to avoid potential hazards and issues from arising,” Bell says. “Having “hands on” experience helps them feel comfortable with handling some of these things themselves.”
Senior Ella Slayden shares how beneficial this lesson was and how it will assist her in the future.
“It’s very helpful to know your car well in case of an emergency, so walking through the checklist helped us to identify some important components that make up the car.”
By the end of the lab students were able to identify and fix various issues without help from the teacher.
