Fresno Christian commemorates the veterans in the FC community during the Veterans’ Day Chapel, Nov. 6. Families and friends join together in the Peoples Church Auditorium to hear the story of Vietnam veteran Gary Parnell, interviewed by radio host Paul Loeffler.
57 photos of veterans were collected from FC families for a special slideshow honoring them during chapel. The veterans ranged from WWI to more current conflicts and included FC alumni who joined the military after graduating.
Five branches of the military were represented among the veterans.
- Army – 30 (3 from the National Guard)
- Navy – 17
- Air Force – 10
- Marines – 5
- Coast Guard – 1
Among the veterans, 13 of them served in World War Two, six in Korea, four in Vietnam, and one from the First World War. Two veterans, Leo Giannola and Alphons Lemo along with speaker Gary Parnell are recipients of Purple Hearts. These are given to veterans who were injured during war.
During Veterans’ Day Chapel, all the veterans in attendance were asked to stand up so the students could acknowledge and honor their service to the United States. To view their photos visit the elementary “Wall of Fame” in building 5.
