Homecoming week begins with an all time favorite dress-up day, ‘Merica Monday, Sept.22. History Teacher Kori James knew the moment her son offered his American suit that she was destined to host this special episode of Mic’d Up Monday.

Quizzing students past and present about many U.S. history details taught in her class, she was both impressed and bewildered at many of the answers.

“Asking my students questions about very important lessons from history felt a little like a job check,” James said. “I mean…if a student can’t tell you who the first President of The United States was… is that really my fault?”

Sarcasm aside, James loves teaching history and has never been a real memorization of dates kind of teacher but prefers teaching history as a story with lessons from the past to help shape students into contributing members of today’s society.
