FC turns back time, excitement builds
Once again it’s time to prepare for homecoming. The theme chosen for this year is decades. Each class chose their own era and will put together a float based off of whichever decade they chose. Students have already been planning and building their floats, creating costumes and are planning on dressing up each day of the week.
The Homecoming court is as follows:
Freshman princesses candidates: Jordan Mazzela, Annabelle Messer, Kayla Vanderlinden.
Sophomore princesses candidates: Julia Fikse, Megan Raynes, Macie Thompson.
Junior princesses candidates: Jenna Bynum, Mariana Fikse, Erin Wilson.
Senior queen candidates: Brooklyn Ainley, Sydney Belmont, Jennifer King, Hannah Nale, Olivia Palmer.
Senior king candidates: Daniel Ayers, Roy Brown, Julian Castro, Phillip Christopher, Trevor Trevino
Each day of homecoming week will have a different dress up theme for students, and certain days will have special events such as the King and Queen Pageants and Champions for Tomorrow. The schedule is similar to that of last year except the rally that normally takes place on Friday is Monday.
Monday: Decades Day and homecoming rally
Tuesday: Sports Day and Champions for Tomorrow will host their annual lunch
Wednesday: World Wednesday and the Princess Pageant
Thursday: Into the Wild Day and the Royal Battle during chapel
Friday: Spirit Day and homecoming game after school
As always the floats will be judged and given first, second, third, or fourth place according to the creativity and effort put into them.
Wesley Hinton, ’20, is enjoying his first year being a part of the homecoming float construction.
“Float planning is going great. We have most everything planned out,” Hinton said. “My favorite part is probably hanging out with friends. I am one of the people in charge of building, and it is being built at my house. I have never really done anything like this before.”
Sam Cross, ’19, hopes to motivate his classmates to bring their float to the top with hard work and dedication.
“The float planning this year is taking awhile, but the idea and layout for our float is there,” Cross said. “Now the sophomores need to come together and put it all together. We had a great theme last year, but I think our 1940s theme will be just as good as last years.”
The junior class aims to take their float back to the days of malt shops and hoop skirts with a 50s theme. Food from the time period might also be available to visitors.
Jacob Avedian,’18, shares the vision of the junior class.
“Our class is working on our fifties themed float,” Avedian said. “So far, we are thinking of having half a drive in movie and half of a diner. We are also thinking about serving 50’s-style food, but the exact details are still in the works.”
The senior class hopes to encompass the groove of the 70’s with a tribute to Disco.
Hannah Nale, ’17, shares insight into the class float. She hopes that the theme will keep the judges interested. Nale encourages all of her classmates to get involved for the final year of high school.
“This year our Senior class is decorating our float as the 70s. Our disco theme will keep the judges boogying,” Nale said. “I would love to see all our classmates get involved this year especially cause this is our last opportunity. I also would love to bring home the win with a fabulous float!”
Homecoming this year will be held Oct. 7. The football game against Kings Christian will start at 7 p.m. As usual there will be a separate tent for both the alumni and homecoming court. Since this year marks FC’s 40th anniversary, there will be a tent with brand new commemorative spirit wear for purchase.
Before the game the princess candidates will arrive in a parade of cars and will be introduced. During halftime the king and queen candidates will be introduced and crowned. Food will be available for purchase and everyone is welcome to come enjoy a night filled with excitement and entertainment on display.
