FC girls basketball highlights Tayla Tarlton and Sarah Guglielmana at their senior night against Riverdale, Feb. 10. Emotions run high as the two seniors take the court for the last time.
Prior to the game, Fresno Christian girls basketball gets together for a party to celebrate their seniors, following it up with a team dinner. The seniors enter to a warm welcome with the team song, Diva by Beyoncé, blasting on the speakers. The girls play games and decorate small pink basketballs to throw out to someone special to them in the crowd.
Families greet their seniors as they receive baskets and hand-made posters from their teammates. Following the ceremony, the girls basketball team sings the national anthem.
Captain Tayla Tarlton enjoys the discipline and dedication it takes to be a great athlete. She always strives to improve her skills on and off the court, giving everything she has for her team.
“Basketball has been an area where I can come and leave all of my worries at the door,” Tarlton said. “I get to come, have fun, and work hard with my team.”
During the game, four-year varsity player Sarah Guglielmana reaches the accomplishment of 1,000 points, joining the small percentage of athletes to reach 1,000 points. Guglielmana believes it is important to give 100% for your teammates.
“As an underclassman, I always worked as hard as I could so I could show the upperclassmen that I could hang with them, that I was good enough to play with them in varsity. I was doing everything I could in games and practices for them,” Guglielmana said. “Now as an upperclassman I strive to give my 100% and to set a good example for the younger kids in order to show them how giving max effort pays off and how you play in practice translates to games.”
After a hard fought game, the Eagles ends their season with a loss against the Cowboys 53-41.
