Senior Caleb Eldridge is back with another episode of the Fresno Christian EagleCast and continues to bring the community meaningful conversations with students and staff members in this recurring podcast series. In this episode, join us as we discuss the struggles of senioritis with host Caleb Eldridge and senior guests Christian Martinez and Tayla Tarlton.

Senioritis. The plague that sweeps across every senior class. Why does it only seem to affect the senior class? What are the symptoms? Is it an illness or a personal choice? Today, we’re diving into the topic of senioritis and ways to combat this disease.
According to Southern New Hampshire University the most common symptoms of senioritis include a loss of motivation with the side effects of procrastination, missing assignments and loss of interest in their studies. These symptoms may lead to lower grades.

Senior Christian Martinez has been struggling with senioritis since, ironically, the middle of his junior year, but he suggested the idea of focusing on your future to combat senioritis. Committed to USC, Martinez has a large academic pressure on his shoulders.
“For the career path I want to go on, I need to maintain a 3.7 GPA and achieve a 4.0,” Martinez said.
Martinez and Tayla Tarlton are both candidates for valedictorian at Fresno Christian this year, so their takes on senioritis offered the approach of a cure.
“Make a purpose, have a purpose, find a goal, find something,” Tarlton said.
Tarlton attempts to find purpose every morning, with sometimes the step being as simple as getting a coffee from Starbucks before school.
Ultimately, it seems that the final assessment of the diagnosis is that senioritis isn’t an illness, but rather a choice made by seniors, most likely due to burnout and college admittance. As Martinez and Tarlton said, focus on the future, and find a purpose to keep moving forward. Remember to stay strong seniors!
