Spanish classes tour Univision 21 Fresno (VIDEO)

Every year, Spanish II and III classes take a field trip to the Univision 21 Fresno radio and television station. The tradition continued this year, Nov. 8.

The Spanish II classes toured the complex for hours, learning the significance of each department and the influence it has within the Hispanic community in the San Joaquin Valley. Meanwhile, students in Spanish III prepared a dish for the “La Comida” section of the station’s morning show.

Both classes took a charter bus to the Univision complex in on the corner West Herndon and North Palm Avenues. Spanish teacher Beatriz Foth coordinated the field trip with Univision executives.

Entering the Univision foyer, students watched tele-novelas and the other Spanish broadcasting station they had available for entertainment. Many of the student gaped at the multitude of wires running throughout the plaza. An instructor explained that these wires can stretch from Fresno to Tulare County and back.

The Spanish III class received the opportunity to cook Palella Valenciana for the segment of time given on the “Arriba Valle Central” morning show. All seven Spanish III students explained each of Paella’s ingredients and how it was to be plated on the dish. Although most student were not used to the pressure of speaking clear and proper Spanish, they made the best out of it.

The Spanish III class will be appearing on “Arriba Valle Central,” Nov. 10, between 5 and 7 a.m.
