As boys and girls soccer are well into preseason, both teams prepare for the annual Garces tournament, Dec. 6. The teams will be departing Fresno Christian at 10:30 p.m., Dec. 13, to travel to Bakersfield for the overnight tournament.
Preparing for their last Garces tournament, senior Richie Cortez talks about what he is looking forward to about the tournament and how he is expecting the team to do.
“I am looking forward to playing in the Garces tournament because it is a good bonding experience for the team,” Cortez said. “It is also a great opportunity to get more playing time. I am expecting the team to step up and play to the best of our ability. If we play with 100% then I think we have a good shot at winning our section.”
The girls and boys team both play one game the first day of the tournament. Girls play at 3 p.m. against Kennedy High School and boys play at 3 p.m. against Liberty High School.
After spending the night in Bakersfield, the girls compete against Mission College Preparatory High School at 10:45 p.m. and then Mammoth High School at 2:30 p.m. The boy’s games are to be determined depending on the results of their first game.
