Second year Feather staff, Annabelle Messer puts a spotlight on the benefits of joining The Feather from her perspective, along with what she continues to learn while apart of the team.
I look at my years of high school and do not know where I would be if I did not join The Feather Online. This newspaper not only is a place to share news, opinions, reviews, and columns, but it is a family.
This community continues to work together and have each others backs when needed the most. You always have someone to push you out of your comfort zone and do something you never thought you would ever do. Whether that be an interview or write an article that is on a topic near to your heart.
My first year I was strictly a journalist. I learned to write articles, promos, and even columns. Not only have I learned how to improve my writing skills, and step out of my comfort zone but I learned how to become a backpack journalist. I have learned how to hold myself in a professional manor and know how to conduct a conversation. The Feather gave me a new perspective on news, and journalism.
This is my second year on The Feather. I am now a photojournalist. This year has been filled with learning new skills. Including, how to use a camera, take pictures in any lighting or situation, and how to capture a story in just one photo. I have made such great bonds with my team and continue to learn from them daily.
I am so happy I joined The Feather and have the opportunity to not only capture moments with words but also with an image. It has given me so many opportunities to learn and to pursue my education in a new way that I would not have the chance to do other wise. I want to thank my amazing advisors Kori Friesen and Greg Stobbe for always pushing me when I need it most. As well as preparing me for all circumstances and giving me new horizons to explore.
