In response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus), national collegiate and professional sports, as well as many school districts and universities have either suspended or canceled events over the last month.
California Governor Gavin Newson has stated he does not think schools will reopen until after the summer of 2020.
California school districts and universities are suspending classes as a precaution of COVID-19. Fresno Christian administration announced on March 13 that FCS will transition to alternative learning model.
The cancelations were originally scheduled to last for about four weeks; through April 13. All Fresno Unified, Central Unified, Clovis Unified schools plus countless others in Central California including Parlier High School, Sanger High School, Yosemite High School, College of the Sequoias, Fresno State, Clovis Community, Reedley College, Fresno City College, Fresno Pacific and UC Merced have suspended in-room classes. They either move to online classes for a limited time or through the end of the semester.
However, as of March 20, this solution is still in process and the situation is changing daily. Be sure to check updates from local school districts and state education departments for up-to-date information.
Updates from the California Department of Public Health, State of California, Office of Fresno County Superintendent, Association of Christian Schools International and other agencies are all readily available. United States president, Donald Trump recommends “social distancing“, to avoid groups with over 10 or more people, traveling, and eating out. States including Colorado, New Jersey, Connecticut and New York begin to close gyms, bars, and restaurants to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The USA has lost 100 lives to this virus as of March 17.
In response to the growing concern, hundreds of elementary, middle, high schools, and many universities, have canceled or suspended classes due to coronavirus. According to The New York Times, the number of schools that have suspended in-person classes continue to escalate, expanding beyond the West Coast and the New York City region.
However, school systems are not the only ones to suspend operations, including national and international sports.
All NCAA college sports have been canceled including March Madness and championship tournaments. The 2020 Olympic games held in Tokyo have been postponed until the end of the year. The following sports leagues have decided to postpone their season including, NBA, MLB, NHL, and MLS.
Not only sports gatherings have been canceled or postponed but many amusement parks have shut down for a period of time. Disneyland, Disney World, Sea World, Disneyland Paris, Universal Studios, Universal Orlando, Disney cruises have temporarily shut down do to COVID-19 virus.
