From coast to coast and throughout America seniors do not get to finish their final high school year as they traditionally would. Due to COVID-19, schools have been canceled for the rest of the year.
Yet Fresno Christian has continued with an alternative learning method at home via WebEx and Zoom classroom meetings and online work.
Not only is school canceled but events including prom, graduation, choir trips, grad night, and senior trips are canceled as well.
As more and more emails get sent out, students are informed on news that their last semester of high school is being taken away from them. The class of 2020 waited four years to experience their final moments as a senior class, but COVID-19 took it away.
Apart of the senior class, Zeke Fuller shares his thoughts on his senior year and what events he was looking forward to.
“Senior year has been by far the best year of high school for me,” Fuller said. “I was looking forward to N.O.T.S., senior trip and graduation. I’ve been looking forward to these events since I started high school.”
Fuller continues to explain why he would want to go back and finish his last month of high school.
“I 100 percent would want to go back, because you only get this once, all the memories and friendships you make,” Fuller continues. “You don’t have to worry about adulting quite yet. COVID-19 robbed the best year of my life. But I am thankful that I still had more than half of it; I still got a crazy good senior year.
As many seniors throughout the year wished for this school year to be over, they regret not savoring the last moments they while they were still in high school. This was the case for senior Kayden Marquez as she shares that she was not expecting her high school year to be over so quick.
“It’s sad to think that we had some of our last big events at school without knowing it,” Marquez said. “I am upset the senior class doesn’t get to have their last formal and maybe even graduation or grad night. As much as senioritis kicked in and I wanted the year to be over, I would like to go back to school. I never got to say my final “goodbyes” to all my classmates and teachers.”
Graduation is a milestone in most students life. Getting the chance to hear the names of the classmates that you laughed, cried, studied, and even had a few mental breakdowns with may never happen for the class of 2020.
Yet the 2020 class will not get to experience walking down the aisle with their classmates, receiving their diploma or throwing their cap in the air to celebrate their past four years.
Ethan Hamm, ’20, shares how he was looking forward to sober grad night the most and he hopes his senior class can get together one last time.
“It’s a bummer that all of a sudden after 13 years of school we are about to finish it out, then all this happens,” Hamm said. “Regardless of how you feel about school, you can admit that it is more satisfying to finish your senior year properly, rather than it just fizzing away. I was looking forward to sober grad night the most. As long as our class can get together one last time, I will be fine.”
Because this season of life has been filled with “unknowns” left and right, senior events are in the process of being rescheduled for summer or later dates. Stay tuned to The Feather for updated information on senior activities.

Good job, Annabelle. I hope you all get one last night together.
