Colorguard instructor Vanessa Hinojosa chose ‘Carol of the Bells’ as the performance song in order to challenge the group with a different style.
The combined middle and high school teams practiced for a month in preparation for the concert. Hinojosa claims it was a “busy month” due to a December parade also occurring, leaving less practice time for the concert, and more work for the students to remember two routines.
Hinojosa has been in Colorguard for seven years and is reaching for three years of teaching.
“My favorite part about teaching is giving students a chance to have an outlet they enjoy.” Hinojosa said, “Colorguard is a way you can express yourself through movement and music which is helpful when verbal and emotional expression isn’t easy. It allows me to create a safe environment for my students.”
Colorguard will perform at their first competition at Lemoore High School, Jan. 28.
