Performers close preparations for the production, “I’m in the Mood for Love”
The Valentine’s Concert is on Saturday, Feb 11 in the SMC at 7:00. The tickets will be sold at the door for $5 for students and $10 for general admission.
The concert is a chance for choir and ensemble students to sing pop solos and duets with a live band in front of a crowd of family and fellow students. Every member of the performance is dedicated to execute an excellent performance all around.
Susan Ainley and Ben Certain organized the program and advised the students on their music choice for an audition in December. The singers have been rehearsing the whole month of January on their own, and in front of their peers during class.
The audience will hear covers of top 40 hits, classic rock, jazz, and broadway genres; and a light dessert will be served as well.
Andrew Scully, ’23, has already performed three years for the concert. He will end his senior with a solo, ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ by Frank Sinatra, and a duet with Paige Deffenbacher, ’24, ‘Shallow’ by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
“I am not nervous but I am super excited to sing in front of everyone,” Scully said. “I can’t wait!”
The Valentine’s concert began years ago as a way for the women’s ensemble to sing something other than choral music, in between the Christmas and Festival Competition.
The program has grown from a small concert with just the singer’s families to an event the whole school looks forward to every year. Ticket sales are what helps the choirs raise money for their Festival Competition trip to Anaheim in April.
