Fresno Christian Drama presents “The Gift of the Magi” at Redemption Bible Church, Nov 30 and Dec 1. After lots of preparation, Susan Ainley, director of FC Drama and Women’s ensemble, brings another successful play to the Fresno Christian community.
“The Gift of the Magi” is centered on newlyweds Della Worthington, played by Sophia Adams, ’24, and James ‘Jim’ Young, played by Christopher ‘Boomer’ Mericle, ’24. This short story was written by O. Henry around 1905. “The Gift of the Magi” tells the story of a couple, and how they sell their most sentimental possessions in order to buy the other a gift.
Mericle has been involved with FC Drama since his sophomore year, ’22, when he fell in love with theatre. Now, his senior year, Mericle stars as Jim in the 2023 winter play.
“My favorite part of our recent production was all of the heartfelt moments that the characters Jim and Della got to share as a sweet newly married couple.”
Ashlyn Dyck, ’27, attended the play on the Dec 1 showing.
Dyck said, “My favorite part of the play was when Della and Jim hand each other their Christmas gifts because it shows how much they care about each other.”
Thank you to everyone who helped put this play together!
