[/media-credit] Throughout the years of King’s time, he has given over 400 speeches, wrote five books and has lead three famous marches.

In remembrance of the service of Dr. Martin Luther King, students all over the country take school off in honor of Dr. King’s birthday. Jan. 20.

Throughout the time period of 1957 and 1968, Dr. King used his faith and leadership to lead and insure justice during the Civil Rights Movement. His courage to successfully lead non violent protests including the Selma march, bus boycott and the march on Washington had not gone unnoticed.

Dr. King demonstrated his passion for equal rights in his remarkable “I have a dream” speech. His fearlessness ultimately ignited the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1968.

On April 4, 1968, James Earl Ray, shot and killed Dr. King out side of his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. His death affected the nation as a whole and tens of thousands of people lined the streets to pay tribute to Dr. King. His bravery to act and lead the Civil Rights movement has continued to ripple throughout history to this day. Happy birthday Dr. Martin Luther King.
