With Valentine’s Day approaching, Fresno Christian staff offer their wisdom by answering the question, “What is your best relationship advice for students?”
Math teacher Kristina Breshears uses mathematical equations to show how you can be in a relationship that grows closer to God together.
“If you are both pursuing Jesus, you are going to get closer, and closer together,” said Breshears.
PE and cheer coach Hope Villines talks to both girls and boys about what they both to have a healthy relationship.
“Gentlemen, if you are going pursue a girl and you try super hard to pursue that girl,” Villines said. “Then when you get that girl you need to continue to work as hard at dating that girl as you did pursue that girl. And to you ladies, you need to be yourself, don’t go out and be something you not to get the guy.”
Secretary Silva Emerian tells students to not trust themselves when it comes to trusting their gut.
“Typically we are very selfish human beings and we want to put our own needs first, so when you are in a relationship do the opposite of what your gut tells you to do,” said Emerian. “Think of the other person before yourself.”
Bible teacher Scott Falk tells us to communicate with our loved ones so that they have the ability to be close to us.
“To have a good relationship is, to be honest and to be as open as you can with your feelings and what’s going on with you, try not to hide things,” Falk said. “The more you can open up and be honest with who you are, the closer a person can be to you. You can only be as close as someone they are willing to open themselves up to you.”
Math teacher Angie Counts points out the importance of serving your partner in everything.
“When you are in a relationship with someone, you wake up in the morning and you think about how you can serve that person,” Counts said. ” That person should be on your mind all the time.”
Biology teacher Jacob Cantu recommends selflessness.
“Think of your loved ones before yourself,” said Cantu. “And when you put others before yourself hopefully they do the same for you, and when they do that’s what you call love.”
Football coach and PE teacher Mick Fuller went in depth about the subject using scripture as the model of his relationship advice. He speaks on how God intended relationships to be and what they have become.
“I encourage young people to approach the task of finding their life mate, their wife or their husband with our original purpose in mind,” Fuller said. “The best way to find such a one for you is to become such a one for another person.”
All great advice from the high school staff at FCS. Happy Valentine’s Day!
